Sun TV channels went off the air in most places in the Temple City following an instant migration of local cable operators from Maran-owned Sumangali Cable Vision (SCV) to Azhagiri-owned Royal Cable Vision (RCV) launched on Monday.Caught in the cable tiff were housewives who passionately watch the mega serials telecast on Sun TV.They choked the phone lines and flooded the local cable operators with angry queries about the sudden blackout of the Sun Network since Tuesday morning.Only those who had installed Sun Direct (Directto-Home Service) could watch the Sun channels without any interruption. A prolonged blackout could see more of cable connected homes switch over to Sun’s DTH, which is yet to take off among the middle and low income groups. A few localities like K.K.Nagar, however, did not suffer any interruption in the network’s telecast as the operators chose to remain with SCV.
Madurai Cable TV Operators Association A.M. Kannan told this newspaper, “With the presence of 30 MSOs, a total of 450 cable operators function in the city. While only 100 of them are with SCV, the major chunk of operators shifted their loyalty to RCV.Moreover, the dealers of pay channels like Raj, Vijay, Jetix and Discovery have inked pact with RCV to relay their channels. We do not have any problem in telecasting Jaya TV programmes too.” Sensing stiff competition, SCV jumped the guns a week ago by giving cable operators 50 percent concession in the charges towards every cable connection. But Azhagiri, according to an insider in his camp, had told a meeting of cable operators after the launch of RCV on Monday that he was aware of their difficulties assured them a share in the profits.
Meanwhile, a scroll announcing that Sun TV firm has been delaying its telecast service to RCV despite the latter’s appeal, is on in areas where Sun channels have been blacked out. RCV is very hopeful of getting Sun package. “This is only a business. When we have the network, they have no other alternative but to come to us in near future,” Mr Kannan said.

Sun Network launched Sun Direct, DTH service, few months ago which resulted in agitation from local cable operators from all over Tamil Nadu. Doing with this matter, Tamil Nadu Government promised to launch Arasu Cable vision. Government officials reported that cable connections all over tamil nadu will be undertaken by government itself by acting as a MSO(Multi system operator). But now Central government delays to take give a license to ACV, making it to act as a MSO and so ACV has already post-ponded for another three months. In the mean time, it is said that if ACV fails to get the status as MSO then the government will support Hathway by giving the tender to them, allowing to continue their service all over Chennai. In present, Hathway has only 10% of the chennai cable tv customers while remaining 90% of the traffic is controlled by Sun network owned SCV(Sumangali Cable Vision).
Offer[Fraud] Game :

Few days back SCV started to distribute their STBs(Set top box) at a price of Rs. 500 + Rs. 400 for smart card. In the mean time, Hathway started to distribute their STB at a free of cost including smart card and charging Rs. 100 + Rs. 5 per pay channels as a monthly charges. In reply to this now SCV also started to distribute the STBs for free of cost. Fraud game starts now, SCV ads are not clear to the customers like Hathway ad. Customers rushed to the local cable operators and realized later that SCV STBs is not free of cost that they are demanding Rs. 400 as a deposit amount, which is refundable(warning : Don’t get scammed!!!). This game was started in the middle of the last year between DMK and Maran brothers, and it continues still in various directions in various means. Anyhow, I hereby request the people of Tamil Nadu to be very careful regarding these cable issue, don’t be in hurry while getting STBs. If your area doesn’t have an Hathway distribution, don’t get disappointed, sources say that they are expanding they’re network, Hathway might reach your area anytime. Most of the cable operators are ready to switch to Hathway from SCV(SCAM Cable Vision). In present Hathway is available to areas like Velachery, K.K.Nagar, etc., and the official sources from Hathway said that it would reach Kodambakkam, Vadapalani, Saligramam and Virugambakkam within a month of time. In the mean time Tata SKY, dth service provider, has slashed their rates pricing at Rs. 2500 including installation charges. I’m repeating, don’t be in hurry while selecting between the service. Keep checking to my blog to get the updates on the Greater Chennai Cable Game.
